There was half a foot of snow on the ground as we headed for the blacktop. We just did not imagine this for southern New Mexico weather! 20 miles down the road, and bam, not a hint of snow, just wide open desert.
After trucking a while, we pulled into a lonely truck stop for some gas. Fuel up, take care of business, and back on the road. Or, so we thought. I whirl the engine over, you have to be kidding me? Lost the fuel pump again! I jump out, fiddle with the fuel pump control module, and she fires long enough to get off the fuel island.
I break out the tools, do some problem solving, bingo! The bolt securing the ground is stripped. Everything syncs back together with a new bolt, disaster in the middle of bfe averted. Whew! Back on the road again, hopefully fixed this time!
Before leaving Gila Hot Springs, we were given advice on a route leading to some 4×4 trails, and more hot springs. Sweet, sounds perfect! Next destination, the base of Whitlock Peak, in the Arizona desert.
Driving through this part of the country is surreal. The landscape completely foreign to us. Barely passing another vehicle all day, we made it to the turn off.
A natural, hot well, feeds BLM developed soaking tubs, amidst the vast desert. The warm tubs are a welcome break from the cold. The surrounding area has tons of trails to explore by 4×4, the hot well dunes teeming with wildlife. Owls, rabbits, birds, and coyotes a plenty, but the people far and few.
Great pictures! Glad to hear you were able to keep trucking down the road:)
Thanks, we were a little worried for a bit. ?
