The rain has become comical at this point. For many years we celebrated, chasing the rain that filled the rivers and creeks. Where there is rain, there is whitewater. But we aren’t looking for whitewater this trip.
It’s amazing how quickly ones perspective can change. While we still love the rain, I must say, we are not as enthusiastic about it! You truly learn the meaning of a flash flood while in the desert. Let me tell you, do not go driving around the desert in a torrential down pour! A nice, thick, slippery paste forms on the roads, trying to pull you into the swamped ditches. Then, when you finally get back on the pavement, every low spot has a river running through it! When it rains in the desert, take the high ground, and just chill. As fast as it comes, it goes.
The rain pushed us into the mountains above Tucson. It seems the worst case scenarios quite often have a silver lining, the flooding being our blessing. We found primo spots amongst the saguaro, high in the mountains, overlooking the city.
Just as we were setting back to chill our first night… I almost forgot, I was due a talk from Johnny law. Every 6 months or so, it seems the man feels the need to give me a talk. Usually along the lines of, “you are not allowed to have that much fun”!… After an intense 10 minutes of being drilled, they loosened up. We had a nice, civil chat, about none other than Miss Blanca, and thankfully we did not have to spread the contents of our home all over the ground!
We spent several days exploring Coronado National Forest, relaxing, enjoying ourselves, and running into Tucson to take care of business. We could see the draw of the area, but have to keep moving on….
