All Saints

Todos Santos, All Saints. We have been day dreaming of this Southern Baja town for years.  Originally committing to only 3 months on the road, with a destination of this artsy little pueblo, we felt we had reached a milestone as we explored around.

Todos Santos turned out to be very similar to the charming community we imagined in our heads. Filled with an eclectic mix of individuals from all over the globe, Todos is an especially popular spot for young northerners to overwinter.  It has a lot of outside cultural influences, but not too watered down in our opinion, at least not yet.

Pretty much anything one could want or need is provided for in this little corner of Baja. Art, music, coffee, boutique hotels, shops, and spas, complete with touristy knick knacks scattered throughout.  The same slow, easy going vibe that covers the rest of Baja is still strong here.

Plenty of excellent eateries and cafes are scattered around town, offering a wide variety of choices from authentic Mexican to food from home, wherever that may be.  The famed Hotel California lies in town. It is said that The Eagles would escape here back in the day, before Todos was on the map (conflicting stories on this one).

Situated on natural springs, Todos Santos is surrounded by several organic produce farms. Fresh, tasty fruits and veggies abound, creating a Bruce and Jodi paradise!  Although more expensive than northern Baja, we still paid significantly less for food than we do in VA.  A fish market, stocked with fresh Baja catch, provided us with delicious, wild shrimp for less than $6 a pound.

The locals and expats mostly seemed to intermingle well, although there are a few questionable projects in debate. Same old story, outside money funding several huge developments, poised to potentially change the whole dynamic of the town.  We can only hope that this little slice of town balance will not skyrocket to join it’s southern neighbors of Cabo and San Jose.

We can surely see how one could make a disappearing act and end up in Todos.  Dry, warm weather creates a perfect climate with practically zero bugs.  Perched on top of the Pacific and all she has to offer, with the Sierra de la Laguna as a backdrop, hell, it’s paradise!  We were almost tempted to park Miss Blanca and kill a few years here ourselves.  Put this one on your list, a perfect destination for an enjoyable vacation, whether hiker, surfer, beach-goer, or townie Todos Santos has you covered…..

As “friend of bruce @ Golds’ gym”, can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed catching up with you guys and dogs via your amazing pics and notes! Reminds me totally of my @ the USA, 6 week trek in 1975, in a ragged out Dodge window van! Thanks for sharing!
